Seed application, commonly called seed tanning or seed treatment or seed coating, consists in applying substances (fertilizers or biostimulants) to the seed in a precise and localized manner, aimed at stimulating a more rapid emergence of the plants. This allows to safeguard the value of the seed for the benefit of the productivity and quality of the crop, thanks to the physiological effects of tanning and to the greater resistance of the plants to abiotic stresses.
